The 27 Club: Cleveland, Ohio

Road trips always seem to develop their own personality. Some are chaotic, some are scenic, and some unexpectedly revolve around coffee. My summer drive to Cleveland, Ohio ended up being firmly in the third category — fueled by curiosity, caffeine, and a long-planned visit to the 27 Club.

From the moment I stepped inside, the atmosphere felt different from your typical coffee shop. There was an edgy, artistic energy — the kind of place that feels intentionally designed rather than simply decorated. Soft pink tones met bold graphics, and the aesthetic somehow balanced cozy and rebellious at the same time.

First up was the Iced Diablo Latte, one of their signature charcoal-activated creations. Visually, it’s striking — dark, dramatic, almost mysterious. This isn’t the kind of drink you absentmindedly sip while scrolling your phone. It demands attention. The flavor was smooth and rich, with that subtle depth you expect from a well-made latte, yet the charcoal gave it a distinct character that made the entire experience feel novel.

Then came the drink that completely stole the show: the Blonde Don Iced Coffee.

I know, I know — choosing favorites is unfair. But the Blonde Don was impossible not to love, just like the name sake - MGK. The soft pink color alone made it feel playful and photogenic, the kind of drink that instantly brightens your mood before you even taste it. And the taste? Light, refreshing, slightly sweet without being overwhelming. It felt like summer in a cup.

What I appreciated most about the 27 Club wasn’t just the drinks — although they were genuinely excellent — but the personality of the space. It’s rare to find a café that feels so cohesive, where branding, menu, and environment all tell the same story. Every detail, from the skull logo to the color palette, contributes to a vibe that’s memorable and unmistakably unique.

Road trips are often remembered for destinations, landmarks, or big events. Yet sometimes, it’s a simple coffee stop that becomes the highlight — an unassuming detour that lingers in your memory long after the drive home.

And for me, Cleveland will always be tied to MGK, pink coffee, and the unmistakable cool of the 27 Club.
